Fun with AI

I spent an hour with Claude Code, and made the following little fun app. It's called the "Dario" v. "Altman" Death Match.

"Dario" is represented by Claude, and "Altman" by ChatGPT. I made the two models debate each other on a topic of my choosing. At each round, they have the opportunity to concede.

In the example video, the motion is "Canada should become the 51st state." By random draw, "Dario" argued FOR and "Altman" AGAINST.

These tech bros meant business.

"Dario"'s opening was fire! Canada is "basically Wisconsin with health care and better manners." "That's not a merger, that's a cheat code."

"Altman" picked up on cheat code, and came out hitting hard. "Good luck telling Quebec they're now Wyoming with poutine."

Neither side was ready to concede an inch.

Then, in Round 10, "Altman" tapped out.

"Dario" won.

For this entertainment, I had to pay for the ticket. The app keeps track of the price (see the money bags below each name).

To run the above debate, I spent 4.4 cents on Claude and 4.2 cents on OpenAI.

I didn't write any code as Claude wrote all of it. Claude Code's process also performs automatic testing, so it will notice its own mistakes. It does exhibit some "token-maxxing" behavior as it may have an incentive to run five times around the building before entering it.

I didn't like its initial design aesthetic and gave it more specific instructions, to which it responded well.

Claude forcibly inserts disclaimers without being asked to do so. It seems extremely concerned about the consequences of offending real-life Dario and Altman.

Below "Dario" and "Altman" debated GM foods.

The conversation touched upon seedless watermelons, StarLink corn, superweeds, glyphosate, GMO tomato, Brazil-nut gene in soy, hornless bulls, CRISPR, seatbelts, L-tryptophan, airbags, POEA, etc.

Here's something less serious: hamburger or hot dog? "Dario" argued for the hot dog.

Price of admission, about 10 cents to Anthropic, 10 cents to OpenAI.

Notably, "Altman" took two rounds off, causing "Dario" to notice he was arguing with himself.
